Business T Level students have been learning about governance and how it works in the world of business. While learning about governance they were lucky enough to have the Mayor of Folkestone, Councillor Belinda Walker, come into college and talk about governance and how she manages it.
While the Mayor was here, she handed out the Badge of Office for the students to have a closer look at it and started with how she must wear it at official events to show her position. After that Belinda spoke about her journey to office, shedding light on her motivations and the responsibilities she has as Mayor. When going through her responsibilities she tied it to governance and how important it was to set rules and best practices not only in the organisation but also with their personal goals.
Reflecting on the presentation, Alice Tester said, “I found the Mayor’s talk to be both informative and inspiring, particularly for women.”
Their tutor Jennifer Manoli said: “Belinda was very informative and inspirational for the T Level Business students to listen to. We are honoured to have her here at College for our first of many guest speaker talks.”
The Mayor was very animated whilst talking about this event, saying: “I think it is really important to involve young people in democracy and to understand traditions and apply them to today’s cultures. It was a massive pleasure to come and speak to the students.”
The event left the students more confident in understanding what governance is and what it involves from the perspective of a Mayor.
We would like to thank the Mayor of Folkestone Councillor Belinda for her time and for providing our students with an inspirational talk.
