Summer break is here. It’s the perfect time to recharge, have fun, and prepare for the year ahead. But how do you make the most of this time away from the classroom?

Here is our guide to optimising your summer break with a mix of fun and productivity.

1. Create a flexible summer routine

A routine will help you set the tone for your six-week break and ensure that you feel content at the end of each day. It doesn’t need to be a strict schedule, but a simple guide.

Suggestions are to plan what time you’ll eat breakfast, time for hobbies, when you’ll relax, and looking ahead to activities and festivals you’d like to attend, planning fun around a summer job.

Adding exercise to this routine will help you feel more active while making good use of the nice weather outdoors.

2. Plan fun activities with friends and family

Use your summer to create memories with your favourite people. This is your time to get out and about.

Organise a picnic, go to the beach, or have a movie night with your friends. Don’t forget to include family in your plans; a road trip, game night, or barbecue can be fun and meaningful.

3. Spend quality time alone

Intentional time on your own will give you the chance to get to know yourself better and understand what you want to pursue in the future. Explore hobbies or try something new that interests you.

Read a book, start journaling, paint, or learn a new skill. Doing things on your own can be relaxing and help you grow as a person.

4. Prioritise sleep and healthy eating

Summer break is a great time to have fun and sleep/eat whenever you want, but consistent sleep helps you wake up feeling more energised and ready to tackle the day.

When it comes to food, focus on fresh, healthy meals. Summer is the perfect time to enjoy fruits, salads, and smoothies.

Don’t forget to stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water; carrying a water bottle with you will make it easy.

5. Prepare for September in small steps

Even though it’s summer, setting aside a little time to get ready for the next school year can make a big difference. Organise your supplies, review notes, or set personal goals for the upcoming term.

If you’re transitioning to a new environment, spend some time researching tips and advice.

You can prepare for September and plan to see friends by coordinating your visit to the College for Results Day. Come to EKC Folkestone College to get your results.

Level 2 Results Day is 21 August.

Level 3 Results Day is 14 August.

Come early to see your results and meet the friends you haven’t seen all summer. We’ll see you there!
