At EKC Folkestone Junior College, we believe in providing a caring, supportive environment where every student can thrive.
Our dedicated team works closely with students, ensuring that everyone’s needs are understood and met.
Whether your child faces academic, physical, or emotional challenges, we’re here to help them build a brighter future.
What does wellbeing mean at Junior College?
Wellbeing is more than just physical health; it’s about supporting each student’s overall mental and emotional health too. We recognise that every learner is unique, with different needs and strengths. Our comprehensive support covers:
Learning challenges: The support we provide to students aligns with the support available across the rest of the College. We work closely with specialist tutors to ensure tailored support. We have delivered workshops on topics like understanding the brain and building resilience and a sleep workshop.
Individual support: Students have access to counselling services. Additionally, students have regular check-ins with the Student Progression Mentor to further support their progress and well-being.
Mental and emotional health: Creating a safe space where students can discuss challenges and access professional guidance.
On-site café and refectory: An ideal safe space for socialising and relaxing between classes, as well as a dedicated student centre to help create independence and growth.
Our goal is to empower students to become confident, independent learners, prepared for future success.

What types of support are available?
Starting somewhere new with people you haven’t met before can be overwhelming and nervous for some students, which is why we have designated mentors at EKC Folkestone Junior College that work with students on their course ensuring they are supported during their studies with the transition. Our services are designed to address a wide range of needs:
- Focused transition activities: Preparing students for their College journey so that they know what to expect and how it may be different from school or home-schooling.
- Dedicated Student Progression Mentors: Each student is assigned a mentor to meet with on a regular basis to discuss their Junior College experience with.
- Independence skills development: Teaching life skills for a self-reliant future so that students can become more independent outside of College life.
- Additional Maths and English support: There are Learning and Skills coaches available to all students to support the learners with English and Maths.
- Medical and personal care: Ensuring students’ health needs are met daily, including any administration of medication.
- Specialist SEMH tutor: There is a specially dedicated tutor for students with Autism and SEMH who can meet with students for 1-1 sessions
- Exam Adjustments: Custom arrangements based on individual requirements to reduce anxiety and stress as much as possible for the students.
We conduct assessments to tailor support and maintain close contact through regular reviews. During your induction, we’ll introduce you to the facilities and resources available to you. As needs change, so does our support because we know flexibility is key.
