Information for parents/carers following Meningitis outbreak in Kent
You may have heard about an outbreak of Meningitis in the county, and we can understand that you may be worried about this. In response to this, we want to ensure that you are aware of what symptoms to look out for and understand what you need to do if you or your young person develops symptoms.
Please note, our College remains open as usual, and at present, we have not recorded any confirmed cases.
Students who have gone above and beyond throughout the year were recognised at our awards ceremony at The Burlington Hotel.
Each year we celebrate student achievement at our EKC Folkestone College Student Celebration Awards. This year we made the most of the occasion, treating our award winners to an impressive ceremony at The Burlington Hotel on Wednesday 19 June. The ceremony was hosted effectively by Ella Brocklebank, Chair of our Local College Board.
Students and staff enjoyed delicious canapes, made by our Catering department before coming together to share in the successes of our students who were being recognised for their hard work, commitment, and personal achievements throughout the year.
Staff nominated one student from each subject area who has impressed and gone above and beyond throughout the year, whilst other College-wide categories included T Level Student of the Year, Contribution to the College Community, Social Action Award and the coveted Principal’s Award. Winners were presented with a trophy, certificate, gift voucher and additional prizes from generous departmental sponsors. This year’s awards looked fantastic and were sustainable, being made in-house from MDF using the CNC machine in our Construction department.
Principal’s Award winner, Satya Grattan, was delighted to learn she’d been awarded the highest honour of the evening, commenting: “It’s really cool and totally unexpected. I just thought I’d been nominated for a department award, so was surprised when I didn’t see my name until the end of the programme.
“I’m so grateful for my time at EKC Folkestone College. It’s felt like home for the past few years but in September I will be moving on to EKC Canterbury College in September. I feel it’s been my experiences and the teaching that has helped me grow as a person and develop the confidence to move on to my next step.”

Many of our awards were generously sponsored by local businesses and stakeholders that our departments work closely with, providing winners with additional prizes. We’d like to thank the generosity of all of our sponsors, with whom we are grateful for the ongoing support. We look forward to continuing our partnership with these businesses in the future.
