Top ten presentation tips from EKC Folkestone College Business students

26 November 2025
We caught up Business and Administration students to hear their top ten tips, so that you can upgrade your presentation skills ready for your College studies.

Strong presentation skills are a core component of our Business courses, with our students having opportunities to pitch and present ideas throughout the year.

Whether it’s pitching a new brand to professionals, showcasing their skills or taking part in an interview task, there’s always something happening for our T Level Business students.

We recently caught up with them in lessons to hear their top ten tips, so that you can upgrade your presentation skills ready for your College studies.

“Wear smart clothing”

Sometimes, presenting ideas is all about how you feel. If you wear smart clothing during a presentation, you may feel more professional, and therefore, more confident in your ideas.

“Have good posture”

Body language is also important for presentations. Your ideas will come through in a better way if you stand up straight rather than slouching, and your audience will be more receptive to what you say.

“Keep eye contact”

It may be slightly daunting at first, but keeping eye contact with the people you’re pitching to is key. This helps to build trust between yourself and your guests and will also help build your confidence.

“Don’t just read the board”

It may be tempting and easier to read all the work that you’ve already done, but it can seem a bit monotone and repetitive, especially if you’re trying to impress someone. Software such as PowerPoint includes a separate section for notes, which you can read away from the main presentation screen.

“Keep your presentations simple”

Don’t overcrowd your presentations with lots of words, images and graphs. Keep it simple and let your words do the explaining. Having a strong summary on the board will help keep people aware of what is being mentioned.

“Have a clear voice”

Speaking clearly is essential for making sure your audience understands your ideas. Avoid mumbling or speaking too quickly. Take your time and articulate each word.

“Face your audience”

Always position yourself so you’re facing the people you’re presenting to. Turning your back to the audience can feel disengaging and make it harder for them to hear you clearly.

“Have a strong title”

Your presentation title is the first thing your audience sees, so make it clear, concise, and engaging. A strong title sets the tone and gives your listeners an idea of what to expect.

“End with a summary”

Wrapping up your presentation with a clear summary helps reinforce your key points and ensures your audience leaves with the main ideas fresh in their mind.

“Leave room for questions”

Inviting questions at the end of your presentation shows that you value your audience’s input and helps clarify any points they might not fully understand. It also creates an opportunity for engagement and discussion, making your presentation more interactive. Always plan a few minutes for questions and be prepared with clear answers.

Now that you’ve heard from our Business students, you’ll be ready to engage, entertain and inform a range of audiences with your skills.

This means your next steps could be applying to one of our Business courses, including our T Level.
