What can I expect at an EKC Folkestone College Open Day?

Attending an Open Day at EKC Folkestone College is your chance to explore the campus, meet students and staff, and discover the wide range of courses and opportunities available.

Whether you’re interested in our Junior College, T Levels, a variety of subjects or want to get a feel for student life, this guide will help you know what to expect at one of the Open Days, which includes:

Exploring the Campus and Facilities

When you attend an Open Day, you’ll have the opportunity to explore the entire campus.

This includes our state-of-the-art facilities such as the advanced Construction Workshops, Sports MUGA (Multi-Use Games Area) Pitch and Immersive Classrooms equipped with Virtual Reality technology.

By exploring social spaces like the Student Centre and Refectory, you’ll be able to picture yourself as a student here. Our campus is designed to provide a modern, industry-standard learning environment that prepares you for your future.

Meeting the Junior College Team

If you’re in Year 9 and are considering joining the Junior College (for ages 14-16), an Open Day gives you a chance to visit this dedicated area.

Here, you’ll meet staff and students, ask about our unique programme that combines GCSEs with Level 2 qualifications in Business and Art, and explore how it prepares you for further education or apprenticeships.

Learning about Community Engagement

EKC Folkestone College is proud of its strong community ties. During the Open Day, you’ll have the chance to see displays of past and current community projects, learn how students contribute to local initiatives, and understand how this engagement enhances your learning experience.

Partnerships with local businesses and organisations such as Folkestone and Hythe District Council and Folkestone’s Creative Quarter provide unique opportunities for you to apply your skills in real-world settings.

Interactive Demos in subject areas

A highlight of the Open Day is the chance to take part in hands-on workshops and live demonstrations. You could head to the Hair and Beauty Salon to see the hottest trends in action, or you could be exploring the Construction workshops to gain a taste of the specialisms you can go into.

These interactive experiences are designed to give you a real feel for the practical, skills-based learning that’s at the heart of our programmes.

Hearing directly from students

At an Open Day, you can chat with current students to get first-hand insights about life at the College.

Students will be located in various departments showcasing their work, which is a great way to hear directly from those currently studying what you’re looking into.

Their experiences can provide valuable perspectives on College life, the support available, and the opportunities they’ve had.

Get a Feel for College Life

One of the key things to expect from a Folkestone Open Day is an insight into student life. As you explore the campus, you’ll get a sense of the atmosphere and see what life is like as a student here.

Student Experience Officer Darren and the Students’ Union will be available to talk to you about the range of activities and events they host throughout the year.

These include the annual Freshers Fayre, an event held in the first few weeks where you get to meet local business and support groups and try a dynamic range of activities.

Asking questions and getting expert advice

Whether you’re curious about course content, the application process, or potential career paths, an Open Day is is your chance to ask all the questions that matter to you.

Staff, lecturers, and current students are here to help, so don’t hesitate to ask them for advice or clarity on anything you’re unsure about.

The College Services team will be on hand during the night, happy to assist and answer any questions related to topics such as support and admissions.
