We spoke to Darren, our Student Experience Officer at EKC Folkestone College to find out about the Clubs and Societies available to all students.

Can you tell us about Clubs or Societies that have been available in the past?
We’ve had the LGBTQ+ Society in which students have been able to come to the Student Centre to chat and chill out. This created a safe space for students of the LGBTQ+ community to share their experiences and make new friends.
Last year we ran the Board Game Club, which was very popular and will be available again this year. You can make use of the connect four, pool table, and bring your own board games. Students from all different departments can attend this Club, so it will be great to see the collaboration from across the campus.
What should we expect this year?
With the Students’ Union Council now elected, we’re excited to kick off this year’s clubs. We’re starting a Book Club. The College are involved in the charity Books2Africa, due to the generosity of donations we will have a surplus of books, from these books we hope to create library in the Student Centre. Club members can also suggest and bring their own books to read.
Due to popular demand, the Board Game Club is returning to the Student Centre, featuring games like Connect Four, Chess, and Pool. Students are welcome to bring their own games too.
As someone with a sports background, I’d love to launch sports clubs.
Several departments have shown interest in Street Cricket, which was popular last year, and I hope to make it a regular event.
Football is my specialty, and I plan to create a team, train, and compete against other Colleges in a tournament. I’m also exploring options for more training venues close to other Colleges. Exercise is crucial for both physical and mental health, making these sports clubs a valuable addition.

How do I get involved in a Club?
Any student of EKC Folkestone College can join any of the Clubs or Societies. You will need to speak with your Class Rep, Student Union President – Dylan Komaromi or come find me, Darren, in the Student Centre for more information.
I have an idea for a Club, who do I talk to?
We would love to hear your ideas for new Clubs and Societies. The first step would be to speak with your Class Rep about your idea. They can then bring it to the next Student Union meeting for discussion. If agreed your Class Rep would be in touch about how to organise, promote and begin your Club or Society!

As the Students’ Union has just been elected the Clubs and Societies will begin this term. These are run by the students for the students!
Speak to your Class Rep, Student Union President – Dylan Komaromi or you can find Darren in the Student Centre for more information.
