The sun was shining as EKC Folkestone College came together to celebrate another fantastic academic year with a special Student Celebration Day, giving students the chance to relax, have fun and recognise everything they have achieved throughout the year.
ESOL students celebrate their success
The celebrations began in the Welcome Building with the annual ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) Graduation, where students were recognised for their hard work, determination and progress over the past year.
Hosted by ESOL Lecturer, Tatiana, the ceremony was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate each student’s achievements. Alongside their official course certificates, Tatiana also presented every student with a personalised certificate, making the occasion even more memorable. Fellow students were invited to enjoy a selection of refreshments as they celebrated together.
One of the graduates, Uyen, reflected on just how much they have achieved since joining the College.
“I’ve been in college nine months. Before, I couldn’t understand English, I didn’t know anything. But I’ve come here two days a week and after three months I could speak English with others in my class. Before I didn’t have a friend, but now I do. After college I want to apply for an English course with EKC Training to progress further.”
Uyen’s story is a brilliant example of how learning a new language can open doors, build confidence and create lasting friendships.
A well-deserved celebration
Following the graduation, the celebrations moved outside as Student Celebration Day officially got underway on the College’s grassed area.
With glorious sunshine throughout the day, students enjoyed a packed programme of free activities designed as a thank you for all their hard work this academic year.
There was something for everyone to enjoy, including:
- Free ice cream vouchers for every student.
- Sumo suits.
- A Gladiators-style inflatable arena with padded pugil sticks.
- A Bucking Bronco.
- Football goal posts for friendly matches.
- Safe bristle axe throwing.
- A selection of sweets and treats.
Students also enjoyed a fantastic demonstration from Mirai Karate Dojo, where they watched impressive kicking combinations, punch bag drills and exciting board-breaking demonstrations.
Many students gathered to cheer on the performers and experience something completely different during the day.
Throughout the event, the College grounds were filled with laughter as students challenged each other on the inflatables, enjoyed an ice cream in the sunshine and spent time with friends before the summer break.
Thank you for a fantastic year
Running until the afternoon, Student Celebration Day was the perfect way to bring the academic year to a close.
The event celebrated not only students’ academic success, but also the friendships, confidence and memories they have built during their time at EKC Folkestone College.
Congratulations to every student on all you have achieved this year. We hope you all have a well-earned, relaxing summer, and we look forward to welcoming many of you back in the new academic year.
